Cooking Geography The Cooking Geography group project aimed to familiarize students with countries around the world with a focus on understanding how geography and culture affect food choices. Cooperative groups first voted on countries to research and then proceeded to assess the research materials available online and in print. Groups completed a series of three research graphic organizers pertaining to the government, history, culture and geography of their country. Using ethnic cookbooks and online websites, students created a complete two-day meal plan for a family from their country. Next, groups used their graphic organizers and meal plan to develop their final visual and oral presentation. The cooperative groups presented the information orally and visually to the class. The student excitement and momentum for this project resulted in many unique presentations. One group studying Japan learned to create origami and visited a local Japanese shopping and restaurant mall where they learned to eat with chopsticks.
